Intro

Every life is remembered.
Written down by what it leaves behind.

Verse 1

I was just a boy when they rosin’d up my hand,
Threw me in the chute like I’s grown man,
Strapped to a big mean bull from Charlie Plummer,
Two seconds loose and he took what I had.

Stomped me flat before the daylight fell,
Blood in my mouth, dust on the rail,
Learned real fast—
Mercy fails.—

Verse 2

We pushed hard north, never beat the snow,
Black clouds stacked where the cold wind blows,
Crossin’ Indian country, friends all around,
Red River rose, went wall-of-water down.

No way back, nowhere to run,
Cattle and men lost to the sand—
The river took what it came to claim,
Never asked permission, never gave names.—

There’s a hill just west of the trail we ran,
White crosses set by shakin’ hands,
Boots nailed high in cottonwood trees,
Like names the river and time both keep.

Bridge

Moved beef through swamps down New Orleans way,
Hooves sunk deep where the water don’t play,—
Laid pipe in the heat till the ground went numb,
Learned how quick the steel can come.—

Drove nights in a Pete with the dash lit red,
Laughin’ in a clown suit, bleedin’ in my head,
Different towns, different names, same old ground,
You do what you can just to stay around.

Verse 3

Out west of San Saba, alone in the cut,
Best ride of my life, nobody saw it but us,
Big Appaloosa, white scars on his hide,
Sun layin’ low, just me and that stud.

A big snake struck and we both hit the ground,
He went still on me, no other sound,
My best friend there in the settlin’ dust,
Leather and breath and a bond built on trust.

Three days back into that empty town,
I’s still standin’, nobody around,
No marker, no prayer, no witness found,
Just a ride that ended where the trail gives out.

Outro

Every cowboy dies.
Some quick, some slow, some out of sight.
What carries on ain’t flesh or name—
It’s the life laid down along the way.

No mother marked me.
No father claimed me.
No first ride, no last.
I was there before the dust was counted,
And I’ll be there after the miles have passed.

I wasn’t the one who made it home.
I was the life that kept on riding.

Chasin' Taylor (Savior) Lyrics (Never Soon Enough)

Verse 1
I’ve been ridin’ with a map that keeps changin’
Every mile feels closer than it is
Chasin’ a sound through small towns and long nights
Tryin’ to learn what “enough” is
Every sign says almost
Every turn says waitin’
Every good thing shows up a little too late

Pre-Chorus
I gave my hands to the work, gave my heart to the run
Found wisdom and madness tangled as one
Funny how the harder you lean on the wheel
The less control it feels

Chorus
I’ve been chasin’ Taylor down a one-way road
Close enough to feel it, never gettin’ home
Every green light fades before I’m through
Every right thing feels almost true
I keep showin’ up, but the timing’s wrong
Everything good comes never soon enough

Verse 2
There’s a kind of strength in the ones who wait quietly
Still showin’ up even when they pass by
Don’t fit the mold, don’t shine on command
But they’d build you a life that stands
They don’t need the crown or the crowd’s applause
Just someone who sees what they already are

Pre-Chorus
I’ve watched real love lose to a cheaper shine
Seen good hearts fade in louder rooms
Funny how we chase what we can’t hold
And let go of gold

Chorus
I’ve been chasin’ Taylor, driftin’ through the years
Close enough to touch it, but never quite here
Every promise hangs just out of view
Every almost-love feels almost true
I keep believin’ there’s more than luck

(pause before “never soon enough”)
But it all comes back never soon enough

Final Chorus
I ain’t chasin’ Taylor like it owes me proof
Ain’t askin’ the sky for faster truth
Now I’m movin’ steady, not wild or rough
Learnin’ grace comes never soon enough
Yeah, I’m movin’ steady, lettin’ go of the rush
Knowin’ the good stuff’s still never soon enough

Outro
Never soon enough
But it’s always worth the ride
